BUILDING GREEN

 

Over the past several years, a movement has begun to encourage developers, architects, and builders to Build Green. Building green involves implementing a defined collection of land use strategies, building design, and construction strategies that are designed to protect the environment, reduce energy consumption, and promote occupant health.

 

The demand for environmentally-friendly construction products and practices has accelerated in recent years. Many opportunities exist in both new construction and renovation to provide a more energy-efficient building. Green building has been, and continues to be, a significant and exciting development in the construction industry over the past decade.

 

"Building Green" is the Design and construction practices that significantly reduce or eliminate the negative impact of buildings on the environment and occupants are called "green design." Often called "sustainable design."

The three major drivers behind the green movement include environmental, economic and health and community benefits.


Environmental: Enhances and protects ecosystems and biodiversity by improving air and water quality, reducing solid waste and conserving natural resources.


Economic: Reducing operating costs, enhancing asset value and profits, improving employee productivity and satisfaction and optimizing life-cycle economic performance.


Health and Community: Improving air, thermal and acoustic environments, enhancing occupant comfort and health, minimizing strain on local infrastructure and contributing to the overall quality of life.
